The next 27 years he worked as an entrepreneur, during which time he co-founded and managed several companies including Foto Rapid BV, a chain of 1-Hour photoshops (sold to Mr. Minit), Huurland BV, a chain of toolhire and partyhire outlets (sold to Holland Amerika Lijn NV), Mr. Bolle en Partners BV, an insurance company (sold to Verzekeringsbedrijf Levob), Box Company, two mini storage outlets (sold to Kubus Beheer BV) and a real estate company in Marbella, Spain. Working internationally served to improve his communication skills in English, Spanish and German and made him sensitive to cultural and market differences.
